Quilt Preparation Instructions
Your batting (I offer Hobbs Heirloom and Dream Poly at a reasonable price) and backing must be a minimum of 4” larger than the quilt top on all sides. For example if the quilt top is 50” x 50”, the batting and backing should be 58” x 58”.
Using purchased sheets for the backing can cause missed stitches in the quilting process.
If you have a special direction you want the top and backing to go on, then please indicate that with a small piece of paper labeled “TOP”, pinned onto the top as well as one on the backing.
Squaring your Top: Check if the quilt top is square. If there is more than 1 ½ " difference between the center and edge measurements, there is a chance that there will be a pleat in your quilt after quilting.
Fullness and puckers: If there is fullness or little puckers where you have sewn your pieces/blocks together, I may not be able to quilt them out. The quilting process can hide some of these but probably will not make them look perfect.
Borders: You must measure through the center of the quilt to get the correct measurement for your border strips. Do not measure the outside edge! If you cut the wrong measurement for length in the borders, the outside of your quilt will be wavy or the center could poke up. The secret is to measure through the center side to side, and then cut two border strips to that measurement and sew them to the top and bottom. Next, measure through the center top to bottom (including the border strips you just sewed on, then cut two border strips to the new measurement and sew one to each side.
Deliver you quilt parts in the best possible condition…. Clean, pressed and loose threads snipped off. I charge extra to press them for you. I do not cut on your quilt top. If there are loose threads, it is up to you to have them trimmed off so that they do now show through the top fabric after is quilted.
DO NOT baste your quilt parts together. Bring three separate pieces – top, batting, backing. The three pieces are loaded to the Long arm Machine separately.
Print the Order Form, complete and sign it and include with your quilt top.
